Most everybody has at least two dehumidifiers in their basement. The new one that functions as it should — pumping the condensate up and out through the cellar window — and the old one that still works somewhat so you can’t bear to take it to the transfer station and pay $25 to have them take it off your hands.

Or maybe you have an old, working dehumidifier that you would like to upgrade. Well you are in luck. Mass Save and the Cape Light Compact will give you a $30 rebate for it. There’s some fine print involved. It has to be in working condition. You can only turn in two of them. It has to be residential size, which apparently means 20 to 70 pints. Anyway, they are collecting them this coming Saturday, June 14 at Crane Appliance in Vineyard Haven between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. They will have the rebate forms.

The Slip Away Farm stand will is opening for the season this weekend, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The farmers are eagerly looking forward to another season of supplying the Chappy community with food and flowers.

The Blackbird Café store and food truck at Jerry’s is scheduled to open Saturday, June 26 and will be open every day 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. until September. The store will be stocked with basic staples like cold drinks, ice, ice cream, beach gear, etc. The food truck will have breakfast sandwiches, bagels, muffins, ice coffee and lunch wraps. Order on line at myblackbirdcafe.com.

These days you often hear people say that history is repeating itself. They aren’t referring to a history that anyone is proud of or wants to see repeated. However, this time around the course of history is being changed. The people are standing up for each other. The designers of the intentional chaos probably won’t recognize this as an alteration in course but those elected officials who have been choosing to survive by complicity are one by one realizing that they are in good company when they resume their responsibility to those who elected them and to the constitution to which they swore allegiance.
