I call June the fog month. The water temperature has not caught up to the atmosphere temperature. The heat is trying to be here and the sun is almost out most of the time, but again that’s June. I like to remind people that last year at this time some still had heat on and sweaters, then just like that it was summer.
Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Christopher Greene and Zake Thibodeau who celebrated June 14; Rigali Rivera, Calvin Brown, June 17; Teagan Brown, June 18; Desmond Moore, June 19; and to Faye Beaulieu, who celebrates her day on June 20.
It is Jaws weekend and the town has shark trinkets all around. I can’t believe it has been 50 years. It seems like yesterday we were watching the filming and waiting for the premiere. We all laughed when Chief Brody left his house on East Chop and went around the bend and was in Gay Head. We enjoyed watching all our friends who had parts and wondered how long it took the Chief to swim to the beach after the boat blew up. And who knew that 50 years later, we would still be watching every time it came on and that we would be having a celebration weekend. It is a movie that does not get old.
Did you know it is summer? Here are some reason why we know this: the beer garden is open and the music has started, people are backing into the parking spaces at the Stop & Shop, traffic is backing up at the Triangle, our summer friends are here, the ice cream shops have lines, weddings are starting in town, the school graduations are going strong, the last day of school was Wednesday, summer kids are looking for jobs, Vanessa the serpent is out in the pond, lots of people are walking on the bike paths and beaches in the early morning, it’s time to start collecting states on license plates, you have to leave five to ten minutes earlier to get to work, the dogwoods are in full bloom, Giordano’s is open, if you go to bed at nine it is still light out, and if you wake up at four thirty in the morning it is light out and the birds are singing loud.
I am sure there is more, but whatever they are I hope you all have a safe and happy summer.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
