I wanted to express my gratitude to the owner and staff of Mad Martha’s in Vineyard Haven. Our son received a brand new gift (a giant toy snake, “Snakey”, much to his parents’ chagrin) this weekend.

We happened to be coming to the Island and he brought it along. It spent the entire weekend attached to him. Day and night, he was playing with it, sleeping next to it, tying it in knots, etc.

So when we found ourselves on the ferry without Snakey, it was a child-sized catastrophe. He spent the majority of the trip, and the remaining evening, crying about his lost snake. No replacement snake would make it better. We deduced that he had to have left it at Mad Martha’s just before we boarded the boat in Vineyard Haven. Once we figured this out, we called the store and the owner was super responsive and got in touch with the store staff.

Later that night, Snakey was found. The joy on our son’s face when we told him the next morning was an enormous relief to our whole family. After corresponding with the owner, he agreed to mail it back to us, as it would take longer for us to arrange a pickup. The “cherry on top” is that he sent it to us without allowing us to pay him back.

Our gratitude is enormous to the wonderful crew at Mad Martha’s — even beyond our gratitude for sinful chocolate (and butter crunch!).

Thank you so much.
