Recent coverage regarding my acquisition of the Chilmark Chocolates name has mischaracterized both the nature of this transaction and my intentions. As someone who holds this community in high regard, I believe it is important to address these matters directly and clarify the facts.

The original Chilmark Chocolates business ceased operations. Through proper legal channels, I acquired the trademark with the intention of reviving this established name in a manner that benefits the Martha’s Vineyard community. Any suggestion that this was done improperly is factually incorrect. While I initially included the original founding date on a sample product, this was promptly corrected upon learning that while I owned the name, I did not inherit its historical claims.

My vision for Chilmark Chocolates is straightforward: to operate as a sustainable business that provides quality products while generating meaningful support for local causes. This model, which directs profits toward community needs, represents an opportunity to create both economic and social value.

The alternative - allowing the Chilmark Chocolates name to disappear entirely - would serve no one’s interests. Legal business transitions like this occur regularly and are fundamental to our economic system. When executed properly, they preserve jobs, maintain beloved brands, and can even expand community benefits.

I understand that change can generate concern. However, I ask that this endeavor be judged by its actual outcomes: the quality of the products, the treatment of employees, and most importantly, the tangible support it will provide to Vineyard organizations. These are the measures that truly matter.

At its core, this is about maintaining a valued island business while creating new opportunities to give back. I am committed to making this venture a positive addition to the community, and I welcome the chance to demonstrate this through actions rather than words.
