An olive-green World War II uniform, embroidered with the name “Morgan,” now hangs in the brand-new Edgartown Golf Club clubhouse.

Donated by his family, the shirt belonged to Ted Morgan, a decorated World War II medic who parachuted into Normandy on D-Day. He was also president of Edgartown Golf Club from 1993 to 2015.

On Friday, June 27, Mr. Morgan’s legacy was celebrated at the Edgartown Golf Club as a part of a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new clubhouse.

John Mettler, current Edgartown Golf Club president, said he felt honored to have Mr. Morgan’s uniform in the clubhouse.

“Ted Morgan was a hero,” he said. “He was a hero not for killing people, but a hero for saving people.... His spirit is at the heart of Edgartown Golf Club.”

Pam Dolby, Ted Morgan’s daughter, was grateful to see her father remembered in this way.

“This was probably my father’s favorite place in the world, so it means a lot. It means a lot that he’ll never be forgotten here,” she said.

The new clubhouse was six years in the making and completed just under a month ago. On Friday, members gathered on the green to celebrate the moment and toast the hard work and dedication that made it possible.

In his remarks to the group, Mr. Mettler thanked the members, construction companies and Ted Morgan’s family, among several others.

“We got an outrageously great result, the building is beautiful.... And it fits, most importantly, with what EGC is all about,” he said.

Mark Hess, manager of Edgartown Golf Club, cut the ribbon alongside the club’s newest and longers serving members. He also acknowledged Mr. Morgan’s deep influence on the club’s development.

“Through Ted’s guidance and wisdom and his super unassuming unselfish personality, he helped steer me and helped steer this club in a great direction where it not only involved the summer community but the year-round community in a way that is very unique to any club anywhere,” Mr. Hess said.

Mr. Hess pledged to continue the club’s development in the spirit and values instilled by Mr. Morgan.

“I look forward to continuing what this club has represented to the entire community and, more importantly, to the Town of Edgartown,” he said.
