Talk about cold, well I think we have had our share already. But Monday was a great day with sunshine and warmth. Still trying to get the outside decorations done and hoping it stays the way Monday was for a bit.
Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Kaua De Assis and Harrison Neville-Arena, who celebrated their day Dec. 13,; Margaret Moffett, Dec. 14; Jenna Hathaway, Dec. 15; Quinten Cabral and Shamere Coke, Dec. 18, and to Abigail Gilley and John Lynch who celebrate their day today, Dec. 19.
This past weekend was a very busy one for our town. It was Christmas in Edgartown, and it was beautiful.
Donaroma’s started the weekend off with its Evening of Enchantment with this year’s theme of Miracles and Wonders. It was a very nice celebration, and we all had a lot to be thankful for as one of our Donaroma’s family members had just found out they are cancer-free after a long summer and fall fighting breast cancer and we are all so thankful that she will be just fine.
The crowd started at 5 p.m. and we did not look up till 7:30. But with all the smiles and all the kids so happy, it was well worth all the work that went into making the evening happen. Just to give you an idea, we started wrapping the pergola in October with over 8,000 lights.
You can still stroll through and enjoy the lights and you can also enjoy the light show that beats to the sound of the carols. You can put your car radio and FM 87.9 and sit back and enjoy the music. It will be up until Jan. 6 and the display starts at 5 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m.
I was talking to a friend the other day. We knew each other in high school. I knew of her and her now husband; they dated for two or three years then married and had three children, who of course are now all grown and on their own. So, I asked how long they had been married and she said 43 years, and they have known each other for 46.
Like any other couple, they had their ups and downs and some bickering, and, of course, the love. We continued talking about how we all made it even when we bickered and nitpicked over everything we did. She summed it all up with a line her daughter once used to describe them: “You and Dad are like oil and vinegar, but when you mix them together they are a great dressing.” So it is with many couples, and we all know it to be true.
Well, time is running short for Christmas shopping. I still have a bit to do and then all the wrapping. Maybe next year I’ll do better, but I doubt it.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
