It is Tuesday, April 27, as I write and this morning was so cold but by sunset it was 60 degrees. The sun was shining and it seemed that all of a sudden it was very green outside. Many of the trees have budded out and the Japanese maples are starting to show their red leaves. I think spring is coming.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Isadora Cordeiro, who celebrated April 20; Sophie Alves, April 22; Emily Freeman, Caroline Hurley, Alexis Lavigne and Ana Riberio all celebrated April 25; Adriana Young, April 26; Christopher Marcal, April 27; Samuel Resto, Matthew Riberio and Paige Smith, April 28; Ella Blodgett, April 29, and to Ariel Meyer who celebrated her day April 30.

It is hard to believe but next weekend is Mother’s Day and it is also the weekend of Pink and Green. People keep asking why Pink and Green, and the answer is that they are the town of Edgartown’s colors. So keep checking for the activities for next weekend. Donaroma’s will have its open house on Friday, May 8, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Spring Electronics Disposal Day is set for Saturday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Martha’s Vineyard Community Center. It offers off-Island disposal in an environmentally friendly way. Recycle your personal or business old and tired air conditioners, cell phones, computers, copiers, dehumidifiers, fax machines, microwaves, monitors, laptops, printers, ranges, refrigerators, scanners, stereo equipment, televisions, washers and dryers and more. Fees are between $2 and $30 and there is a 10 per cent discount for car loads. All proceeds benefit Martha’s Vineyard Community Services.

This year, a group of parents and community members are organizing the second annual after prom party. The YMCA has generously donated their facility on the night of May 16 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. The Youth Task Force again is helping with organization and finances. As the after prom committee has been seeking donations and assistance, the Island community has been generously coming forward to support our kids in a healthy, drug and alcohol-free post prom experience.

The event is for all juniors and their dates. Juniors who do not attend prom are also welcome to enjoy all the evening nights events: a poolside DJ, bungee run, karaoke, games and live band, Velcro climbing wall, movies and prizes and raffles. Juniors will be encouraged to stay the night and enjoy a great breakfast before a 5 a.m. pick-up.

The 2015 prom party committee is still seeking monetary donations to cover cots to hold the event. They are also collecting prize donations and will accept anything desirable for 17-year-olds related to cars, electronics, college, beach, events and sports.
