Ruth E. Plante, 81, Was Educated in Edgartown

Ruth E. (Furbush) Plante of Falmouth, died on Sunday, May 30th in her home after a long illness. She was 81.

She was the beloved wife of Robert A. Plante of 58 years.

Born in Boston, Ruth grew up in Edgartown. She was a graduate of the Edgartown High School, class of 1941.

She worked switchboard operation at the Martha's Vineyard Air Base during World War II. She moved to Falmouth in 1958.

Ruth enjoyed reading, walking, lap swimming and choir singing. She was a member of the John Wesley United Methodist Church in Falmouth. Through the church, she was a longtime member of the church choir and the Falmouth Interfaith Choir.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Robert A. Plante of Ventura, Calif., and her three daughters, Patricia Donovan of Vineyard Haven, Joanne Plante of Edgartown and Leslie Plante of Mashpee.

A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 4, in the John Wesley United Methodist Church, 270 Gifford street, Falmouth, MA 02540.

Interment will be private at the Old Westside Cemetery in Edgartown.
