David Sanderson Smyth, 63, Was Oak Bluffs Visitor

David Sanderson Smyth, 63, of New Britain, Conn., and Oak Bluffs, husband of Barbara Peart Smyth, died on July 5 at home.

Born in Waterbury, he had lived in New Britain since 1972. A 1961 graduate of Croft High School in Waterbury, he attended Brown University and graduated from Transylvania University in 1966. He received a master's degree from the University of Cincinnati and a certificate in library science from Southern Connecticut State University. David was a self-employed technical writer and genealogist. He was a former member of Christ Episcopal Church in Waterbury, was junior steward of the Washington Lodge number 70, AF&AM in Windsor, and was a member of the Scottish Rite Consistory Valley of Hartford.

In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by his mother, Lois Sanderson Smyth of Waterbury; a brother, Peter B. Smyth of Fairfield, Iowa; a sister, Susan B. Smyth of Waterbury; and three nephews, Daniel Smyth-Temple, Matthew and Nathan Luce, all of Waterbury. He was predeceased by his father, David V. Smyth.

Funeral services will be held on July 8 at 11 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 2030 East Main street in Waterbury. Interment will be in the New Pine Grove Cemetery.

Calling hours are tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square in New Britain. Masonic services will be held tonight at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
