Alice Murphy, 74, Worked For Community Services

Alice Rose Hagearty Murphy of Martha's Vineyard died August 30 after a long and courageous battle with emphysema. She was surrounded by friends and family. She was 74.

Alice was born in New Haven, Conn., on Oct. 19, 1931, the daughter of John and Alice Hagearty. She was a graduate of Mount Saint Joseph Academy and Hartford Secretarial School.

She married Thomas D. Murphy in 1962. In 1982 they moved to the Vineyard, where Alice worked for Martha's Vineyard Community Services for many years.

She was predeceased by her husband and her sister and brother in law, Joan and Allan Tibbetts. She is survived by her sister and brother in law, Virginia and Hugh Campbell, brother, John Hagearty, many nieces, nephews and cousins, and a host of special friends.

She will be greatly missed by all her friends and family who loved her dearly.

Her memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. in St. Augustine's Church in Vineyard Haven on Saturday, Sept. 30.
