Harriet Blumenthal Freedberg Embraced Island Life

Harriet B. Blumenthal Freedberg of Oak Bluffs and Weston died on Jan. 23.

She was the daughter of the late Abraham and Dora Agoos Blumenthal. For 60 years, she was the beloved wife of Milton S. Freedberg.

Harriet embraced the Vineyard. Among many loves, this was the center of her soul. For her, the Island consisted of many friends, the ocean, wildlife, gardens, fairs, markets, eateries, long walks everywhere, events, people, everything.

She adored her daily swims out to the raft at Harthaven beach and talking with everyone at the beach. She loved golfing and tennis at Farm Neck, but, for the record, she was not a golfer.

On her deck overlooking Sengekontacket, she admired the swans, geese, clammers, sailors and sunsets.

Her unique personality brought a smile to all with whom she came in contact. She forever will be in all our thoughts.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann Freedberg of Oak Bluffs and New York and Jane Rosenstein and her husband Paul of Chestnut Hill; two sons, Carl Freedberg and his wife Laila of Wayland and Paul Freedberg and his wife Dr. Jill Slater-Freedberg of Edgartown and Wayland; a brother in law, Dr. Al Stone Freedberg of Jamaica Plain; and six grandchildren, Alixandra, Zoe, Lily, Max, Abraham and Agatha.

Three brothers - Joseph, Sydney and Lassor Blumenthal - predeceased her.

Private funeral services were held. Remembrances may be made to the Martha's Vineyard Hebrew Center or the charity of your choice. Arrangements were by the Levine Chapels, Brookline.
