Mary Senior Fearey of Edgartown and formerly of New York city died surrounded by her family in her home on April 1. She was 92.
She was the widow of the late Morton Fearey, who died in 1988, and who was a partner in the law firm of Davis Polk and Wardwell.
Mrs. Fearey was born in Jackson, Mich. in 1914, the daughter of John L. Senior and Maud C. Senior. She graduated from Concord Academy in 1932 and Vassar College in 1937.
Mrs. Fearey served on the board of Goddard Neighborhood Center since the 1950s and became vice president in 1969, a post she held until 1992. She continued to serve on the board of directors until 2002, at which point she became an honorary board member. In addition, Mary Fearey was a co-chair and then chair of the women's division of the Legal Aid Society from 1962 to 1965.
In Edgartown, Mrs. Fearey was an enthusiastic and early supporter of the Sheriff's Meadow Foundation. She was an original donor of land to the foundation and her gift helped to expand Sheriff's Meadow Sanctuary to the Edgartown oasis that it is today.
Over the years she was involved with numerous other community service activities and organizations, both in New York and in Edgartown. She was also a former member of the Edgartown Yacht Club, the Chappaquiddick Beach Club as well as a founding member of the Eel Pond Yacht Club.
Survivors include her three children, Morton Fearey Jr. and Mary F. Lollis, both of Edgartown and John L.S. Fearey of Old Greenwich, Conn.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Her daughter, Julia F. Habgood, predeceased her in 1983.
Services will be held at St. Andrew's Church, 34 North Summer street, Edgartown on Saturday, April 21, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sheriff's Meadow Foundation, P.O.
