Virginia Butterworth Merrill, 91, passed away on Dec. 13, 2018 at the Sarah Brayton Nursing Center in Fall River. She was the beloved wife of the late Bert (Bud) L. Merrill.

Ginny was born on April 6, 1927 to the late Royal E. and Blanche (Hall) Butterworth. She was raised in Foxborough where she graduated from high school in 1945.

Ginny and Bud wed in 1947, and moved to Mansfield where they had two daughters and made their home for many years.

Bud’s career led them to move several times to different areas of the country and Massachusetts. Ginny embraced each move, creating a comfortable home and making many friends along the way. One of her favorite places to live was on Martha’s Vineyard where Bud was born and where, as a young couple, they had spent their summers. For 10 years before their retirement, she worked at Motorola Codex in Mansfield.

Upon their retirement, Bud and Ginny lived in Venice, Fla. and Lakeville.

Ginny loved the beach, traveling, playing tennis, knitting and sewing. Her greatest joy was spending time with Bud and her family, to whom she was lovingly devoted.

Throughout her life, Ginny’s sweet, compassionate, gracious and loving disposition stayed with her and charmed everyone who came in contact with her. She will be greatly missed.

Ginny is survived by her daughter Elaine Nelson of Plainville; her daughter Lisa McCarron and husband Phil of Lakeville; her grandchildren Stacee Savage, Greg Keating, Lori Rego and Shaylee, Kenzie, Emelia and Lilia McCarron; and great-grandchildren James Logan, and Kalyn and Jack Valencia.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.
