Lois Arlene Christopher died peacefully on Dec. 8. She was 92.

She was born on May 3, 1927, in Vineyard Haven to the late Laura (Hinckley) and Howard Powell, and was the granddaughter of Hebert N. and May Hinckley of Vineyard Haven.

Lois worked for John Hancock Insurance Agency when she met her husband Earl. They enjoyed a remarkable and loving life together. After they married, she selflessly devoted her life to creating a caring home and raising her children. They lived in Reading for five years then moved to Lynnfield in 1965, where they lived until 1992 before retiring to Nokomis, Fla., to build a house, where they lived until 2015. Vacations were special from Cape Cod to North Conway, N.H., and numerous other attractions throughout the country. Although she moved to Florida, in her heart Lois was a Massachusetts girl who loved lobster rolls, lighthouses and New England. She was a dedicated worshiper in the St. Maria Goretti and Our Lady of Assumption parishes.

Lois enthusiastically raised her family with a single-minded loving commitment from which everyone can learn. She filled the holidays with joy for her family; her delicious and popular Christmas cookies and fruitcakes were baked with a mother’s love. Sumptuous Sunday afternoon dinners warmed many a winter day. As her sons moved away, packages loaded with baked goodies (all labeled), were eagerly awaited at Christmas. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Earl, and three brothers, Herbert, Ray and Howard. She is survived by three sons: David, of Honolulu, Hawaii, Mark of Winthrop, Me., and Joseph of Ipswich; and three grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale avenue, in Wakefield on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Maria Goretti Church in Lynnfield at 10 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Dec. 13, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Interment will be at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Lynnfield.
