Francis Garvey of Oak Bluffs and Ballinlough, county Roscommon, Ireland, died peacefully with his fiancé Louise Dahill at his side on Jan. 31. He was 65.

He was born Sept. 1, 1956 in Ballinlough to Dominick and Anne Garvey. He moved to Martha’s Vineyard more than 35 years ago and became employed by Island Food Products. He enjoyed delivering to his customers in Edgartown and developed lifelong friendships with many of them, as well as the owners and his co-workers. He became the company’s operations manager before retiring in December of 2021.

His favorite pastimes included playing darts and raising a pint with friends. He played tour guide on numerous trips to Ireland as well as short trips to Atlantic City and all involved had great fun. His photo was taken on the Atlantic City boardwalk, which he would walk daily while there.

Francis is survived by his sisters Patricia and her husband Sean Healy, Teresa Grogan, Mary Garvey, his brother Joseph, and his beloved nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Gerard.

He received wonderful care from the team at Hospice and Palliative Care of Martha’s Vineyard; donations can be made to them at P.O. Box 1748, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568 or to the Oak Bluffs Fireman’s Civic Association, P.O. Box 2131, Oak Bluffs, MA 02557.

He appreciated the caring, wonderful staff at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital infusion department.

As he wanted, service and interment will be in Ireland.
