Winter is just a promise, but it makes us rush to savor the last bits of autumn before the ground turns hard and the trees turn bare and the snow flies. Collect pockets full of crimson leaves, gather armfuls of goldenrod, cut hydrangeas for drying —  it’s a ritual.
