The fall youth hockey season reached its midpoint earlier this month.
Last weekend, the Travel Mites took on Dennis-Yarmouth in what head coach James McKeon described as a total team effort of unselfish hockey. Led by Nick BenDavid, Parker Blake, Maks Pacheco and Micah Simmons, the Mites scored 21 goals to Falmouth’s four. Paige Anderson, Chase Grant, Ingrid Gundersen and Vinnie Paciello all scored as well

The Squirts 2 team fell 2-1 on Saturday to a tough Attleborough North Devils team, with Riley Sylvia holding down the fort in net.

Vineyard Peewees Storm Nantucket for Youth Hockey Title

The Martha’s Vineyard Peewees upended the undefeated Nantucket Nor’easters on Saturday to earn the title of Cape and Island League Champions in their final game of the hockey season. The game was played at Charles Moore Arena in Orleans. The final score was 5 to 3.

After a rousing pregame speech by team captain Jack Murray, the Peewees came out strong at the start of the match, scoring twice in the first minute. The team potted a third goal before the first period was over, but Nantucket took advantage of power plays in the second period to tie the game.

The boys’ basketball team rebounded from a tough one-point loss on Friday in their second game of the weekend as they defeated visiting Lexington 53-46 on Sunday afternoon. Senior Liam Weston had a standout game for the Vineyarders, shooting 78 per cent from the field en route to 16 points.
