Shelter Fundraiser is Menagerie of Good Will

Alpacas, miniature ponies and dogs all made an appearance at the 10th annual garden party for the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard.

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard was recently awarded a check for nearly $1,500 from the Black Dog from the sales of their ”Best Friend” long sleeve tee shirts at Vineyard Black Dog Stores.

AnnaBell Washburn, a longtime Edgartown seasonal resident whose devotion to saving animals earned her many citations and awards, including from a U.S. president, died on August 12.

Mobile Medical Unit Helps Deliver Affordable Pet Care

Members of a new group called Animal Lovers of MV recently brought nine dogs off-Island to visit Spay Waggin', a mobile medical unit providing affordable pet care.

Helping Hands for Paws

 The board of directors and the staff of the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard would like to thank the staff and volunteers of Habitat for Humanity of Martha’s Vineyard for the repair and painting work that’s being done at our shelter building in Edgartown. For the past three weekends Habitat volunteers under the direction of Lee Taberner have joined volunteers from the animal shelter to paint, reshingle, restore and do the many things that needed to done to the exterior of our venerable shelter building.

The Island is emptying out after Labor Day, but not the cat adoption room at the animal shelter. It is alive with kitten energy.

The animal shelter is having a run on kittens. Just this week seven motherless little ones were delivered to us in a plastic bin.

Pet Party

It’s a pet party when the Harbor View Hotel and the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard hosting their annual Celebration of Pets on Saturday, June 7.

The orange kittens are entertaining the staff and those who come to visit them. Foxy, a 2-year-old female Maine coon, is becoming a little more sociable. Ten-year-old Cody, also a shy girl, is also waiting for adoption.
