The Harlem Quartet returned to Martha’s Vineyard Monday night, bringing music from three centuries and four nations to captivate its audience at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown.

The Harlem Quartet returns to the Vineyard with two concerts, July 15 at 8 p.m. at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown and on July 16 at 8 p.m. at the Chilmark Community Center. The Martha’s Vineyard Chamber Music Society is producing the event.


Harlem String Quartet to Close Series

The Martha’s Vineyard Chamber Music Society summer program this year has strayed from some of the more traditional offerings.

“The whole business of going to a chamber music concert — well, we’ve really given that a shake-up,” declared Nora Nevin, the society’s director of publicity.

The Harlem String Quartet To Make Vineyard Debut

The Harlem String Quartet makes its Vineyard debut on Monday and Tuesday, July 20 and 21, as part of the summer concert series of the Martha’s Vineyard Chamber Music Society.

In 8 p.m. concerts Monday at the Old Whaling Church and Tuesday at the Chilmark Community Center, the quartet will perform music by Joachin Turina, Maurice Ravel, Wynton Marsalis and Billy Strayhorn.
