The annual Art Buchwald Possible Dreams Auction, now in its 39th year, is Sunday at Winnetu. Doors open at 3:30 p.m.

The Possible Dreams auction, the largest single fundraiser for Community Services, is Sunday, July 30 at the Winnetu Oceanside Resort.

Bidders battled it out under peaked white tents at the Winnetu Oceanside Resort in Katama on Sunday, pledging $136,250 during a live auction for Martha's Vineyard Community Services.

On an Island known for its generosity, the Art Buchwald Possible Dreams Auction is perhaps the most extravagant example.

Twenty-two dreams were auctioned off at this year's Possible Dreams auction, including two vacations in a private home in Galway Bay, Ireland, which raised $24,000, this year’s live auction record. The event has raised more than $400,000 thus far, said Liza May, the auction chairman.

The 37th annual Art Buchwald Possible Dreams Auction will be held on Sunday, July 26 at the Winnetu Oceanside Resort in Edgartown. This year’s auction will celebrate Norman Bridwell, the beloved creator of Clifford the Big Red Dog.

This year’s Art Buchwald Possible Dreams auction, which benefits Martha’s Vineyard Community Services, will be dedicated to the late author Norman Bridwell.

As competition for donor dollars increases amid a crowded field of nonprofits on the Vineyard, new ideas have begun to emerge about fundraising. In the past decade, the total amount raised by Island nonprofits has gone up, but so has the number of groups seeking funds.

Places you could only visit in your wildest dreams were made a reality Sunday night at the Art Buchwald Possible Dreams Auction, which raised $430,000 for Martha's Vineyard Community Services.

Each year more than 6,000 people are served by Martha’s Vineyard Community Services, the largest human service provider on the Island.

“I always think that number is so important,” said Sandy Pimentel, a member of the board of directors. “And they never turn people away.”
