Wet streets at the bend in the road near Martha's Vineyard Hospital. Timothy Johnson

High winds and driving rain lashed the Island as November started out with a coastal storm. With ferry service suspended and the rain mixing with snow Up-Island, towns were largely empty, except for a few hardy people that braved the storm to go about their Sunday routines.

Its that time year when the old Gales of the North come blowing in, the Edmond Fitzgerald was sank by one of the., old Canada sends them down every year., and now the Ice is coming to blanket the Island, then comes the Propane heating bill.. And the Firewood at $400. For 1/2 a cord ., well its high also. The old Vineyard has been home to the whites for over 300 years and thousands of years to the Indians. The long hard winter is a part of nature and it comes with a price. I would have to call the Propane man twice a month., but by the time the end of May comes, well you can get by for less. Its a beautiful spot the the wealthy to come visit in the Summer, and let some money trickle down to the servants, then the whole process repeats., Rain, Snow and Ice and frigid temperatures., ole Cronigs puts the spoiled apples on sale, what else could you want? After three years of the ole Vineyard shuffle I am back in Sweet Home Alabama., and right now them ole Yankees are lined up for miles trying to hide out for the winter., it seems like they would stay up there in their territory. They keep the RV Parks over flowing., I always ask them? Where ya from? Then I tell them like people on the Vineyard told me., oh you need to go back where ya came from., I did but lord half of the North where its wonderful must have followed me down here., now if you can read this., I love ya all but stay up there., we don't need anymore., please stay.
