Charlie Baker’s resume includes stints as former CEO of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and state secretary of finance and administration. But visiting the Vineyard this weekend, the Republican candidate for governor told the Gazette he learned important political lessons as a selectman in Swampscott.

Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley and former federal health care executive Dr. Donald Berwick both won the backing of enough delegates, along with state Treasurer Steve Grossman, to set up a three-way primary race in September. The Democratic convention was held Saturday in Worcester.

Attorney General Martha Coakley, addressing a meeting of Martha’s Vineyard Democrats Saturday morning, said she feels confident about her chances to be elected the next governor.

Granted an extension to respond to a state ethics commission decision, gubernatorial candidate and Cape and Islands State Sen. Dan Wolf will now remain in office until at least Sept. 19.

Mr. Wolf announced last Thursday that he would resign his seat on August 29 and suspend his campaign for governor because of an ethics commission decision that his partial ownership of Cape Air created a conflict of interest.

In a statement on Wednesday this week, Mr. Wolf announced that he was granted an extension and will present a petition to the ethics commission next month.
