The Island Community Chorus delighted audiences over the weekend with a pair of holiday concerts at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown.

Composer Thomas LaVoy, born 100 years after Nancy Luce’s death in 1890, had never been to Martha’s Vineyard or heard of its chicken lady when he spotted one of Dan Waters’s prints.

More than 100 Islanders took the stage of the Old Whaling Church before an appreciative audience for the annual Island Community Chorus concert.

Island Community Chorus director Peter Boak stood before his ensemble as the group rehearsed for their annual summer concert on July 3 at Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs.

Separated by nearly 300 years, Vivaldi’s Beatus Vir and Eric Whitacre’s The Seal Lullaby were standouts in this year’s spring concerts by the Island Community Chorus.
