Lambert’s Cove Road in Vineyard Haven reopened Wednesday morning after a daylong closure Tuesday from a washout in heavy rains. The road reopened Wednesday shortly before 11 a.m.

Tisbury selectmen appointed a department of public works advisory board Monday evening in the wake of new legislation placing the DPW under their control. Ian A. Aitchison, George J. Balco, Thomas W. Pachico, Tomar Waldman and David Willoughby will serve through June 2016.

The director of the Tisbury department of public works has resigned, town administrator John (Jay) Grande confirmed Thursday.

Tisbury has placed a wastewater treatment plant employee on paid leave and negotiated his resignation, after an independent investigator found 17 violations of workplace rules. The town will take steps to prevent future harassment and bullying.

With vigorous debate over two long evenings, Tisbury voters emerged from special and annual town meetings with a $24.3 million spending plan, authorization for Dukes County to buy a new building for the Center for Living, a new garage for the water works department, a share of the costs for a new school administration building, and restructuring that brings the department of public works under the authority of selectmen.

The Tisbury department of public works has come under some deserved criticism for its less than stellar performance during this winter’s serial snowstorms, and surely an operational review is in order.
