Squibnocket Pond lies south of Menemsha Pond with a barrier beach running between the pond and the ocean. The pond is home to an old herring run and has oysters. Derived from an Algonquin word, Squibnocket means “at the place of the red cliff bank.” Skaters and ice boaters can be seen on the pond in the winter months, replaced by beachgoers and kayakers in the summer, although public access is limited. The pond has somewhat compromised water quality due to low circulation.
