Editors, Vineyard Gazette;
I am a 92-year-old seasonal resident of Martha’s Vineyard, who has been coming to the Island for 48 years. I was here when the Soviet Union was collapsing and when 9/11 occurred.
I have also voted in every election for 70 years. But now the current administration is trying to end my voting career this November. I am concerned that potential challenges to mail-in voting will impact many of us seniors who can’t get to the polls to vote in person.
We cannot allow our right to vote to be taken away. There are more than 60 million senior citizens and more than 70 per cent of us vote.
We encourage every Islander to exercise your constitutional right to vote on Nov. 3 or before at early voting locations. Or by mail, if that is your preference. We need more access, not less, to participate in our precious democracy.
