Mrs. Albion A. Alley Jr. reeled in a fifty pound bass Monday night, fish­ing at Squibnocket, and this fish may well be a record for woman‘s shore striper fishing. The best last year’s derby could produce in this department was a twenty-one pound plus bass. In fact the resident grand prize winner, Wallace Pinkham’s fifty-five pound plus fish, was the only one in the whole derby bigger than Mrs. Alley’s. The fish, weighed on the Heathland Farm scales, actually tipped the beam at forty-nine and three quarters pounds, but anyone who wants to quibble about the four ounces can lay it to evaporation, or something. Mrs. Alley plans to enter the fish in the Schaefer contest.

 

It took twenty minutes to bring the fish to gaff, and Mrs. Alley did it all by herself, though her only pre­vious catches had been much small­er fish. Albion Alley, her husband, said, “She did real well, too.” And he ought to know, since he has been flailing south shore waters since be­fore he could quite handle the rod.
