Can We Help You Find Something?

Here at the historic Edgartown home of the Vineyard Gazette we have an extensive archive that covers 174 years of Island history, including:

  • a complete  microfilm record of every Gazette published since its founding in 1846
  • bound volumes of the Vineyard Gazette from 1968 to the present
  • photographs
  • historical videos
  • letters
  • scrapbooks
  • reports
  • manuscripts

Part of our mission at the Vineyard Gazette is to make this unique collection available to scholars, students, members of the community and others interested in the history and culture of the Island. So whatever you’re looking for, our full-time librarian, Hilary Wallcox, is available to assist you with research by appointment.

The best way to start is to fill out a simple library request form, so that Hilary can identify relevant materials before you arrive to use the library.

We also welcome visitors for tours of our historic home in Edgartown. We have one printing press that dates back to the 1830s, and another one from the 1970s on which we still print the newspaper every Thursday night of the year.
