Perennial favorites mingled with first-time winners when the annual Best of the Vineyard awards were announced Thursday night at a festive party hosted by the Martha’s Vineyard Magazine.

Magazine readers voted on 97 different categories, from Best Cocktails to Best Nature Walk to Best Landscape Architect.

Winners were announced at the event held at the Farm Neck Golf Club that drew more than 500 people.

The event began with the Brothers McMahon setting the mood with an array of tunes ranging from the Beatles to the Talking Heads and Johnny Cash. During the cocktail hour many remarked how the annual party was a get together for Islanders, perhaps the last time before everyone disappears into their busy work-filled summers.

Paul Schneider, editor of the magazine, served as master of ceremonies. He never flagged while revealing the long list of winners and runners-up, sprinkling jokes and praise for Island businesses. Cheers erupted from various groups representing the full spectrum of Island businesses gathered in one place. Dancers, baristas, singers, hair dressers, chocolate makers, sailors, HVAC specialists, restaurateurs, it was a night to come out from behind the counter and mingle.

Some businesses continued to reign supreme, including Offshore Ale Co. which took home its 11th win for Best Bar/Pub, and Mocha Mott’s, which won its 17th plaque for Best Coffee. The Net Result reeled in two first-place nominations for Best Fish Market and Best Fish and Chips, plus two second-place nods for Best Fried Clams and Best Sushi.

New to BOV fame was the Aquinnah Shop Restaurant, which was crowned for Best Outdoor Dining for the first time (and is also featured on the July 2019 cover of the magazine). Beth Donnelly won Best Doctor and Caleen’s Day Spa won Best Mani/Pedi. Another newcomer, King’s Barber Shop, won Best Hair Salon.

Ten categories were added to the On-Island Services section this year including Best Auto Detailing Company, Best Flooring Contractor, Best Cleaning Company and Best Tree Care/Arborist. A large contingent from Brennan & Company was on hand to collect the first award for Best HVAC Company.

DJ Steven McCullough helped keep the party rolling and on the dance floor after the announcements. Photographers LA Brown, Randi Baird and Naomi Paulson of Salty Snapshots captured all the revelry.

A full list of winners can be found in the current issue of the Martha’s Vineyard Magazine, on newsstands or available by subscription. Martha's Vineyard Magazine is part of the Vineyard Gazette Media Group.
