Scarlet tanager. Lanny McDowell

Tuesday, May 28, 2019

In May spring migrants arrive weekly on the Vineyard, some passing through and others arriving to nest on the Island. Terns, herons, and willets appear on shorelines. Birders eagerly await the return of Baltimore orioles and ruby-throated hummingbirds in backyards.

Stay up to date on all bird arrivals and other sightings with the Bird News column, and report sightings to birds@mvgazette.com.
