The Martha’s Vineyard boys hockey team lost 6-1 in its quarterfinal match Thursday against Littleton High School, bringing an end to their playoff run.
Littleton is the second seed in the tournament and had a 19-1 record for the regular season. They were aggressive from the start, quickly jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first period.
“I think they entered the game with a lot of anxiety,” Coach Snowden said of his team. “It was a big moment and sometimes in sports we tend to let the moments get bigger than what they actually are.”
The lone goal by the Vineyarders took place in the third period when senior captain Griffin Callahan scored with an assist from senior Donnie Gregory.
“I think we were just trying to put one in the back of the net with the mindset one at a time, one at a time,” Coach Snowden said.
This was Coach Snowden’s first season leading the team. He said he could not be more proud of the players, and wished he had longer with the seniors.
He commended Callaghan for his leadership.
“He really does give it his all for his teammates and for everybody around him,” Coach Snowden said.
The Vineyard Team ended the season with a 14-9 record.
“Overall, when you look at the season as a whole, it was absolutely a success,” Coach Snowden said.
