The Martha’s Vineyard Concert Series is bringing four live music performances to the Vineyard this summer: Ziggy Marley, Bruce Hornsby and The Noisemakers, Elvis Costello and the Indigo Girls.
Elvis Costello will perform on August 8 at the Old Whaling Church for MVY Radio’s annual benefit concert, and the other three shows will be held at the Tabernacle in Oak Bluffs. Ziggy Marley kicks things off on July 20, followed by Bruce Hornsby and The Noisemakers on August 4 and the Indigo Girls on August 29.
PJ Finn, executive director of MVY Radio, said the Elvis Costello show sold out 450 tickets within minutes. He said hosting the musician in a small venue is a rare opportunity.
“It’s a pretty big deal for us, it’s something people are very excited about,” Mr. Finn said. “He’s currently playing venues that are 10 times the size of the Old Whaling Church. So you’re going to get to see them in a really intimate setting, which should be pretty special.”
The concert series is brought to the Island by Innovation Arts and Entertainment. CEO Adam Epstein said the partnership with the Tabernacle and MVY Radio has made the event possible over the past 10 years.
“We will continue to be a force for good in support of Island causes like WMVY that enrich the quality of life for full time and seasonal Islanders,” Mr. Epstein said.
Nichole Beeler, director of marketing for the concert series, said the variety of artists is what makes the series appealing.
“This season is really unique, the season really offers something for everyone. We really try to give a good array of different artists that everyone on the Island would enjoy,” Ms. Beeler said. “This year we have everything from rock legends, Grammy-winning song writers, we have reggae folk icons. It’s really one of our strongest lineups yet.”
The Tabernacle will also play host to the Wallflowers on August 15 for the Martha’s Vineyard Camp Meeting Association’s annual benefit concert. Kim Reilly, MVCMA general manager, said the association is excited about all the concerts this summer.
“The Tabernacle is both the largest venue on the Island, and a perfect place to experience this lineup,” Ms. Reilly said.
