Tomorrow's waxing Gibbous Moon will appear in the eastern sky in the zodiacal constellation Leo. At some point in the evening you will see the bright star Regulus appear in close proximity. In other parts of the country, the moon will actually cover up the bright star. But for us the moon comes really close. Binoculars will help, the star will appear above the moon into the evening.
Regulus is a star we most often associate with spring and summer. It is one of the bright stars in the evening sky. Regulus is more than one star, as many four stars. The star is 29 light years away, part of our neighborhood in the Milky Way. Regulus looks even more powerful on a moonless night.
