There is a pretty good chance the skies will be clear for the Fourth of July fireworks in Edgartown. Take a moment to enjoy the unfolding of the night, as the waning gibbous moon will appear in the east perhaps during or after the fireworks show.
As it rises the moon will wash out all our chances to see faint stars, so enjoy the evening darkness early. The moon will be 80 per cent lit by the sun, making it brilliant. The moon will be moving through the zodiacal constellation Aquarius, a constellation we associate more with autumn than summer.
Next Wednesday morning, the crescent moon will rise in the East in the early hours of morning with the bright planet Saturn. The two are a nice looking pair. For much of last winter Saturn was in our evening sky nightly. It has since crossed into the morning sky. The planet is in the zodiacal constellation Pisces.
