The Perseid meteor shower is in the coming week. While the peak part of the shower is Wednesday night into Thursday early morning, you can see shooting stars throughout the coming weekend and week. This is by far, the favorite meteor shower of the year. You can stand out and see multiple meteors grazing across our sky.
Without the moon, it is in the New Moon phase, we can all expect a super shower with plenty to see. The only and important ingredient needed is clear skies. Even an inexperienced amateur astronomer has plenty to gain by watching this event. Among many of us, this shower is called entry level amateur astronomy.
Just get outside in an area with the least amount of light pollution. Any beach on the Island is a favorite spot. Look to the northeast and be open to the idea you may see meteors right overhead and even heading to the west.
The most productive time is Wednesday night before midnight and into the earliest hours of dawn. But you can look any time, any night, in the coming week.
