Little House Cafe, the popular year-round restaurant on State Road in Vineyard Haven, was listed for sale last Friday for $1.5 million.

Co-owners Jenik Munafo and Merrick Carreiro opened the cafe in the summer of 2010 and the restaurant quickly became an Island staple, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner year-round.

Reached by telephone Monday, Ms. Carreiro said that after eight years of running the business, she and Ms. Munafo decided it was time for a change. She said she has no plans yet for her next venture and wants to focus on spending more time with her family.

“We felt like this is probably the best time for us to put it on the market,” she said. “We’re so proud of what we’ve built, but we’d love to throw it to someone who can make it better. It needs fresh blood.”

“We are so grateful to everyone who supported us,” she added.

The 1,118-square-foot building dates to 1950 and was renovated in 2012 after it became a restaurant. It is assessed at $636,700 according to the real estate listing in LINK, the Island mulitple listing service. Annual property taxes are $5,617. The exclusive listing agent is Martha’s Vineyard Island-Wide Realty.

Ms. Carreiro said she has received interest from multiple parties but no formal offers as of yet, adding that she and Ms. Munafo are in no rush to sell and plan to continue running the business until there is a change in ownership. “We want everyone to know we are here 100 per cent until then.”

She added: “I’ll miss all of our customers and all of our employees. I’ve cooked breakfast every single day for eight years. I will miss it but I would love to have someone else cook me breakfast.”
