There are no contested races in Chilmark for the upcoming town elections on April 29.
Rebecca Haag is running uncontested for the select board’s vacant seat. The seat is currently filled by Marie Larsen, who is not running for reelection after a single term.
Ms. Haag was the executive director of Island Grown Initiative for eight years until 2024, and currently serves as the chairperson of the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital board of trustees.
The only other first-time candidate on the ballot is Mary Grady, who is running for cemetery commission to replace Judith Flanders. Ms. Grady has been involved in Camp Jabberwocky as a counselor and a board member for many years, and founded Chilmark Chocolates, which closed in 2019.
Current elected officials are also running for re-election, including planning board members Peter Cook, Hugh Weisman and Mitchell Posin. Kalia Allen-Posin is running again for library trustee, Elizabeth Oliver for board of assessors, and Drew Belsky for board of health.
Marshall Carroll III and Deborah Hancock are both running for re-election to the finance advisory committee.
The open fence viewer, tree warden and surveyor of wood, lumber and bark positions saw no candidates return nomination papers, though town clerk Jennifer Christy said that write-in campaigns are not uncommon.
There will be a candidate forum held by the League of Women Voters on Monday, April 20 at 6 p.m. in the Chilmark Library.
