The longtime town administrator in West Tisbury is set to retire next year.
Jen Rand told the select board at its meeting Wednesday that she will retire in July 2027. Ms. Rand has been in the position for 22 years.
The board agreed to begin talking about Ms. Rand’s replacement in September. At that time, board members will discuss the timeline for a search and the potential new hire’s start date.
Ms. Rand recommended the select board also meet with the finance committee in September to have a “very serious talk about the budget for the next year,” which will include provisions for her replacement’s salary, among other things.
Ms. Rand makes $25,000 less than other town administrators on-Island, she said. Her replacement would be paid more, and there will be a period of overlap when Ms. Rand is still on payroll.
During her more than two decades as town administrator, Ms. Rand managed the town as its population, budget and staff grew. During her time in the position, many municipal buildings were renovated.
“I am grateful to have played a role in these accomplishments and in the continued progress of the town,” Ms. Rand wrote in her retirement notice to the select board.
The Gazette asked Ms. Rand what she will do with her retirement.
“Ride horses,” she said.
