We have entered the shooting star season. Two meteor showers are ahead and we'll start noting more and more meteors in the night, at any hour.
The Eta Aquarids meteor shower radiant night is next Tuesday. You may see a number of meteors shooting across the sky over the coming weekend, the shower peeks on Tuesday. Astronomers have noted that the shower averages around 20 per hour at best, though that is more optimistic than we've experienced. The meteors appear to radiate from an area within the constellation Aquarius. Aquarius is rising in the southeast after sunset. Potential for seeing shooting stars improves through the night as the constellation gets higher
The second meteor shower takes place on August 11 and 12th. This shower is the second most prolific annual shower of the year. Observers have counted as many as 50 meteors in an hour of viewing. Certainly, because of the season, favcrable weather, the Perseids are the best.
These two meteor shower collaborate together and give us the opportunity to see more meteors than at any other time of the year.
