A longtime radio luminary from the Vineyard will be inducted into the Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
Barbara Dacey, former program director and director of worldwide programming for WMVY, will be celebrated on June 4 in a ceremony at the Renaissance Framingham Hotel.
Ms. Dacey is one of seven radio and television broadcast journalists and executives to be inducted into the hall of fame at the event.
Ms. Dacey began working at WMVY in 1985, starting as a part-time deejay. She was named program director in 1993, and retired as director of worldwide programming at the station in 2017.
“This is a special radio station,” Ms. Dacey said during an interview with the Gazette upon her retirement. “Right from the start it always was. It was people that really loved music, and loved the Vineyard, and loved the looseness of it. The station has always been loose. And natural. I think that’s why I was attracted to it.”
