Antique car enthusiasts across the Island are revving their engines for the Vineyard Gazette’s Car-B-Q Classic auto show, which takes place Oct. 11 at the Winnetu Oceanside Resort.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Winnetu lawn, spectators can check out the vintage cars and enjoy a cookout. The cars will cruise around the grounds at 10 a.m. for a parade.

Winnetu owner and antique car enthusiast Mark Snider said the hotel is proud to support the event, which first took place in 2015.

“It’s absolutely breathtakingly beautiful when all the cars are on the lawn,” he told the Gazette. “People come and just have a wonderful afternoon.”

The Winnetu has two antique cars of its own: a wooden bus from the 1930s and a fire truck from 1946, both of which the hotel uses as shuttles for guests. The Winnetu’s antique cars will be on display Sunday, and the Gazette’s own 1955 red Chevy pickup truck will also make an appearance.

Mr. Snider said he purchased the Winnetu’s first ever antique car, a Ford Model A, 20 years ago. When it came off the ferry, it wouldn’t start, and after trying everything, he checked the fuel tank to realize it was empty. He looks back on that day with laughter.

To him, antique cars produce all kinds of fond memories for people of all ages.

“Every child says to their parent, ‘Can we go back to that place with the fire truck?’” Mr. Snider said. “it means something.”

Car owners can register their vehicles for $50 and the event is free for visitors. To register, visit: carshowpro.com/events/view/3471
