The Vineyard boys golf team captured its first Cape and Islands League title in 13 years with a win over Falmouth last week. Jacoby Light carded a 38, two over par, at The Cape Club in East Falmouth to help bring the title to the Island.

On Wednesday, the boys will compete in the Division 2 South Sectional Championship at Segregansett Country Club in Taunton.

Meanwhile, the other fall sports squads with their eyes on the postseason include boys and girls soccer, field hockey and cross country.

The field hockey and girls soccer teams have each won three games in a row. Field hockey’s wins came against Sturgis East and Saint John Paul II, with the Vineyarders facing the latter both at home and away.

Each victory came by a one-goal margin, making the goals from Hailey Smith, Maddie Huffam, Stella Duncheva and Abby Geary all the more clutch.

The field hockey team is positioned for a play-in game if its record stays above .500. The team hasn’t reached the postseason since 2021.

Adding to the challenge, the Vineyarders face a gauntlet of a schedule to wrap up the year. They have six games in 11 days, half of them on the road, including the season finale against Nantucket for the Golden Anchor.

First up is a home game against Dennis-Yarmouth on Wednesday. The action begins at 3 p.m.

Girls soccer is also in line for a play-in game thanks to wins over Saint John Paul II and Nashoba Valley Tech, with the Vineyarders facing the latter both at home and on the road.

MV outscored its opponents 13-0 during that stretch, as Lucy Doyle increased her shutout total to five on the year.

During the three-game stretch, Leah Thompson notched five goals and Iyla Story scored three. Madison Curelli, Evvy Moffatt, Josey Johns, Hanna Goncalves and Laney Light each added a goal. Light also recorded an impressive seven assists.

At 8-4, the girls need to win just one more game to secure a playoff spot. Their next home game is Saturday against Sutton. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

The boys soccer team is currently ranked 11th in the Division 3 power rankings, with six games left before the playoffs. Wins over Nauset, Falmouth or Nantucket could improve the team’s position.

The team’s latest win came against Nauset. Chris DaSilva scored first, and Mayu Paniora Vento added an insurance goal as the Vineyarders shut out the Warriors 2-0. Nate Walsh was in net for his second shutout of the season.

On Thursday at 3 p.m., the boys will host Sandwich. They’ll play two more home matches before finishing the season against Nantucket and Nauset.

The football team completed a comeback last Friday under the lights, winning an overtime thriller 33-27 over Monomoy.

The Vineyarders will travel to Orange to face Mahar Regional this Saturday. The following week, they’ll head to Nantucket for the Island Cup. Once the postseason bracket is set, there may be another home game before the season ends.

The cross country team dropped a close meet to Falmouth on the Cape in its most recent outing. MV’s top finishers were Robert Riis, who placed second in 18:22, and Nevah Fitzgerald, who also placed second in 22:31.

The Vineyard harriers will race once more this week, hosting Dennis-Yarmouth before competing in the Cape and Islands League Championship this Saturday on their home course in the Manuel F. Correllus State Forest.
