Team celebrates Elle Mone's 100th career point on Saturday, with an assist to Mackenna Metell. - Ray Ewing

On home ice Saturday, regional high school senior Elle Mone scored her 100th career point, a rare hockey achievement not seen in over a decade on the girls team.

The career-defining moment came during the first period in what would become an 11-3 rout over Barnstable. Mone passed to teammate Mackenna Metell for the first goal of the game. In hockey, goals and assists count equally for an individual’s point total.

Going into the game, the milestone was on Mone’s mind.

“I normally try not to think about it, because I feel like it distracts from the actual game,” she said after the game, describing the build up in points over the season. “But as soon as last weekend, I was at 99, I’ve been thinking about it the whole week. I woke up this morning being like, I have to be extra locked in today so that I can get that point, whether it’s an assist or a goal.”

Mone is the first player on the girls hockey team to achieve 100 points since Aubrey Ashmun in 2014.

Head coach Mallory Watts had high praise for Mone, both for her skills on the ice and her leadership.

“Elle is a very humble player and person, and she probably wouldn’t even tell us if there were 100 points; it’s very telling of who she is as a person and a leader,” Ms. Watts said. “She’s such a profound leader of this team.”

The girls team is currently 5-7. Ms. Watts doesn’t believe the record reflects how well the team has been playing.

“I don’t think our record shows, frankly, how much we’ve improved and where we are,” she said. “We have a ton of home games. I’m excited for our home games, and I’m excited for the second half and the second push.”

The next home game is against Falmouth on Wednesday, Jan. 28. The puck drops at 3 p.m.
