On Saturday the Vineyard cross country team will host the Cape & Islands League Championship.
The race begins at noon, with the course running through the Manuel F. Correllus State Forest.
Coach Joe Schroeder said the team is well prepared for the meet.
“The dual meets are great, and those are kind of little quizzes,” he said. “We’re coming up to exam time right now.”
Last year, the varsity boys team won the league title and are looking forwad to making it two in a row.
“They’re all looking forward to a repeat,” Mr. Schroeder said.
Competition will be split into the Atlantic division and the Lighthouse division. The Vineyard is in the Atlantic division alongside Nantucket, Nauset, Falmouth, Dennis-Yarmouth and Sandwich.
Junior varsity girls and boys will race the 5 kilometer course first. Atlantic varsity girls will follow at 12:45, and then Atlantic varsity boys at 1:15.
Lighthouse varsity girls and boys will race at 1:45 and 2:15, respectively.
“We really look forward to these types of championship meets, and then that gives us an idea of how we’re going to do later in November,” Mr. Schroeder said.
