Kitchen Thoughts

Cutting up the last shallot
from summer’s garden
while the biggest snowstorm
in years transforms the yard
and harshness covers the land

once again at ground zero
where what’s been is broken open
revealing dark destinations
still we the countless can be the hero
a generation of regeneration

settling for now the debt
owed to our nation’s imperfect
18th Century visionaries
with hope and solidarity
integrity and peace.
