Once again Mother Nature has spoken. Seven inches of rain and a lot of wind — she cleaned house. We were lucky not to have lost power or get a lot of tree damage, but she kept us in our places for three days. There was a mass exodus of people who had to get off-Island, and there were many trying to get to the Island to attend weddings or just get home. Everyone is safe and that is the most important thing.
Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to the students who celebrated their day. The list is on its way — I called the school and Pam is working on it. Now I only have to walk over there and pick it up.
I have to say congratulations to all the brides and grooms, and the florists, tent people and everyone who helped change venues due to the storm. It was a horrible weekend for weddings. I have always heard it is good luck to rain on a bride, but this was way beyond what was called for. But if it is a true statement they will have luck for a very long time. Congratulations to all.

The League of Women Voter is hosting a candidate forum on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. at the Edgartown library to learn more about the people who want to represent you.
