It is an unwritten rule that you don’t turn on the heat until Nov. 1. This week has been a challenge. I turned it on just to take the chill out of the house because getting out of the shower was not pleasant. So yes, I caved, but for just a few minutes.
Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Enzo De Oliveira, Lara Hathaway, Millena De Lima, Joao Bueno, Pedro Abreu, Daniel Sawers and Brady Davenport, who all celebrated their day this past week.
Congratulations to all the winners of the derby. There were some big fish weighed in this year, and records were broken both for the derby and state.
Jon Kresel was here again this year to fish with his brother Josh. They moved here from New Hampshire with their parents Jim and Mary Ellen. Josh, who was in seventh grade when they moved here, got saltwater in his veins almost immediately and has fished hard ever since. Jon joined and they became a team, so it was no surprise when they teamed up and fished the derby. This year they placed third in the team shore division. Jon came back and forth a couple of times to fish so he basically fished the derby only for less than a week in a five-week tournament. Congratulations team Kresel, can’t wait to see what you do next year.
The derby committee has renamed the Kids Mini Derby to be called the Cooper and Lela Gilkes Kids Mini Derby. This is a well-deserved honor as Cooper and Lela has run this tournament for the last 50 years. The kids love it and everyone is a winner.
Now it is on to scalloping and hunting. I smile as people ask what do you do in the off season. The answer is always: whatever you enjoy.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
