It was disappointing that our fireworks were canceled last weekend because of rain. Next date for fireworks is August 2027! The only beings who were happy were the dogs.

We are looking forward to Sunday, Sept. 6 from 4 – 5:30 p.m. when Laszlo Gardonoy presents a jazz piano concert at our Woodstove Studios.

Guitar with Shelly Jones, who can resist? Shelly will be offering free guitar lessons on Sundays at the West Tisbury Library from Sept. 13 – Oct. 4 from 1- 3 p.m. You do need to sign up. Register at: qwilbur@clams.net.org. Guitars will be provided if you don’t have one.

The Granary Gallery is hosting a slew of talent in the visual arts. Among the artists are Kib Bramhall, Tamalin Baumgarten, Milton Avery and Thomas Hart Benton. Bring your houseguests.

Renowned artist Sarah Nelson, who grew up here, is back for her summer month on Island. She has been painting outdoors on the beach. Sarah has received the Emma Mayhew Whiting Award. Her paintings may be viewed at the Miner Family Gallery.

The People’s Choice Award at the Fair went to artist Bill O’Callaghan. No surprise there.

The Vineyard Harbor Motel had a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating their first 50 years of operation. They are working on the next 50.

Get well wishes to my stalwart friend, Susan Shea. Susan has gotten me through a lot. Now it’s our turn for her.

With great sadness I must tell you that Edward Kevin Vance has passed. Kevin was the longtime companion of Jessica A. Oliver. Jessica needs us now.

The birthday bandwagon pulled along Julie Ann McNary and Robin Bayley on August 21. Also celebrating on that day was Christian Beal. His brother Quinn followed on August 24. Shane True Eagle Vanderhoop celebrates on Sept. 1.

And on Sept. 7, Carrie Stokes Lau, Linda Tydings Massaro and Chris Hulbert take the cake. Many happy returns.
