Striper Wars author Dick Russell talks about efforts to save a troubled fishery, on Wednesday, August 27, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Chilmark Public Library.
When populations of striped bass began plummeting in the early 1980s, author and fisherman Dick Russell was there to lead an Atlantic coast conservation campaign that resulted in one of the most remarkable wildlife comebacks in the history of fisheries.
Striper Wars is the remarkable story of how one species was brought back from the brink of extinction — only to face new and even more daunting threats.
The event is co-sponsored by the Menemsha Fisheries Development Fund and the Friends of the Chilmark Public Library. All are welcome. Admission is free. For details, call 508-645-3360.

Will be off-island for this event BUT this message on striped bass needs an island appreciation.
So far only Maine has “slot (size maximum)limits” for striped bass. Will take cooperation of all eastern coastal states to follow suit.
It is NO fluke that we on&off-island in vineyard waters are “monkeyed” in the middle of it all. But not dissimiliar!
