We are informed that at a meeting composed of the Directors of N. B. & T. B. R. R., together with the officers of the Boston & Providence Rail Road, and some influential capitalists of this and other cities, it was resolved to order the building of a first-class steamboat of 360 tons buthen, to ply between this city and Nantucket. As the Massachusetts is to be placed on the route between Nantucket and Hyannis, an arrangement like this is rendered absolutely necessary to supply the wants of the traveling public, as well as our business men who have relations with the Island. The proposed boat will be of larger dimensions than the one which now occupies the route, and it is expected to have it ready for operation the first part of June. We are unable to learn what disposition is intended to be made of the stock, but judging from the dividends which the present line declare, we are safe in saying that it has all been probably taken up with avidity. - [New Bedford Standard.
A rumor having gained currency that the intention is to touch at Edgartown only a portion of the year, we feel bound to inform the projectors of the enterprise, that nothing less than a regular, direct connection with Edgartown each trip, will satisfy the people of this place.
